Edgy Spring

2020

Pencil, acrylic and enamel on paper, diameter: 42.5 cm, framed: 48.5 x 4 cm.

Raqib Shaw (b. 1974, Calcutta, India) currently lives and works in London. He obtained his BA and MA from Central Saint Martins School of Art, London.

Edgy Spring is included in a new series of circular enamel and pencil drawings created during lockdown from the COVID-19 pandemic. Shaw depicts himself, sitting alone within a seemingly vast and busy landscape, tending to his narcissi plants, re-imagining his own garden on a cliff-edge. The work, while immersing the viewer in a paradisical field of nature, manages to also present a sense of foreboding and change.
