Catherine Murphy (b. 1946, Cambridge, Massachusetts) lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York. Murphy studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1967 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
"My true desire is for the painting to have enough power to be able to read it from a distance, and not to have that power dissipate as the person gets closer to the painting. I want the viewer to have a body experience and a brain experience."
